CAN THERE BE A CONSENSUS ON THE USE OF CORTICOSTEROIDS
IN DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ?
The use of corticosteroids in Duchenne muscular dystrophy
has a long and chequered history. Despite the fact that
corticosteroids are the only group of drugs which improves
muscle strength in DMD, there remains a lack of consistency
in their use. Recent reviews of the use of corticosteroids
from the Cochrane library, the AAN and the ENMC have highlighted
ways forward to use corticosteroids safely and consistently
and developed plans for future trials.
